☆CHAPTER 2: The Accident☆
After a solid 2 hours, Jo was done packing. She was just about to lie down on her bed when she heard her dad scream out, "Jo I'm going to the store! Try not to make a mess while I'm gone." Jo heard some keys jingling and the door shut. "Finally," she muttered and went to the kitchen. She always felt guilty whenever she met her dad right after arguing with him. It made her feel...ungrateful. Although most of the time, it wasn't even her fault. Jo was vibing to a song while making herself some food. She was listening to her favourite artist, Taylor Swift. Jo loves listening to her since Taylor's music had always hit the spot. The songs she listened to filled the void that Jo had in her life. Short to say, the songs made her feel loved. Jo has never felt non-platonic love. Even the platonic love was now scarce, thanks to the accident several years ago. The reason she lost her mom. The reason her sister left them. The reason her dad turned out like this. 9 years ago, on this exact day, Jo's family were on a road trip to their grandma's house. Jo's dad, was driving but his attention was on a phone call. Jo was 10 at that time, and her sister was 11. Everyone were happily chit chatting when all of a sudden, a huge lorry crashed into them. Their car flipped over and fell into a huge drain nearby. When Jo opened her eyes again, she was in the hospital with a pounding headache. In the bed next to her, was her unconcious sister. A sweet nurse checked on Jo and explained to her that she had been in a car crash. Jo had a minor concussion and her body was injured from the shattered car windows. The nurse also explained that her sister was fine and she would just need sone rest. Jo then asked to meet her mom and dad. The sweet nurse told Jo that she couldn't meet them both since her dad was in a temporary coma, and her mom was currently in surgery. All Jo understood was, "Daddy is resting and mommy will play with her soon." Jo was sitting in her bed with the sweet nurse keeping her accompanied. The nurse was telling Jo a story when all of a sudden, another panicked nurse ran into the room and said, "It's the kid's mom, she's on her deathbed." The nurse immediately rushed to the mom's room while Jo followed behind. Inside, Jo saw her mom tied up to plenty of contraptions. "Go ahead, go talk to mommy," the nurse whispered in Jo's ear. "Mommy? Why are you tied up? Why's everyone sad? Are you ok? Are you hurt?" Jo asked her mom gently. Tears were swelling in her eyes. "Honey, you know mommy loves you. Tell Zee that I love her a lot, okay? Tell daddy that mommy's gooing to miss him a lot. I'll miss all of you. My baby, don't forget mommy's always going to be with you." "Mommy....are you dying..?" Jo asked, tears now rolling down her cheek. "I-" Jo's mom began but abruptly stopped. "MOM? MOMMY?! Wake up! Don't prank me, please wake up!" Jo screamed. She turned to look at the nurse who was also crying. "Can you please bring mummy back to life?" The nurse just silently walked over to her mom's lifeless body, shut her eyes and whispered, "You'll be missed." Everything that happened after that was a blurry memory. Jo vaguely remembered her dad crying, screaming and hitting himself after he woke up. Zee on the other hand, only shed a single tear. She bottled up all of her emotions and locked herself in her room for a week straight. Everyone was too busy with the funeral rites to even ask the girls if they had eaten. From that day onwards, life was never the same. Their dad turned into a grumpy sadist, Zee started hiding her feelings and Jo was no longer the sweet cheerful girl she once was. Present Jo was so deep in thought, she missed her doorbell ringing for the past 10 minutes. When Jo finally opened the door, it was her best friend, Shrie.
