The main supplier of Magitek engines and home to most of the world's population of Mages, people who are capable of using magic, is Lemuria, an island-continent that is half the size of Australia and recently created by the Mages, who were running away from early oppression by Mundane people in the mid 2010's. In order to defend their new home from frightened Mundanes, Lemurian scientists developed a suit of armor, known worldwide as Magikiras, or the world's first powered armor. The suits were a major success, and the Lemurian military is comprised almost exclusively of Magikiras units.
All this is common knowledge to you, of course. You are a second-generation Lemurian, born after your parents had moved there during the initial migrations to Lemuria. After graduating from high school, you enlisted in the Lemurian military and have been training there for a year now.
A loud buzz reverberates through your skull and, with a groan, you slowly pull yourself from your bunk. Your phone, or rather Magifona, as it's called these days, lies besides your pillow, buzzing incessantly, reminding you that it is now five in the morning. You blink and stare at the date on the device before your eyes widen and you launch yourself out of your bunk.
Today is the day when you'll finally get to try out a Magikiras unit! Ever since you joined the Lemurian military, you've been waiting for this day, and now, after a year of hard training, you'll finally get your chance! Excitement slaps your sleepiness away as you dash out of your barracks, heading towards the…
Giddy with excitement, you run hurriedly through the darkened corridor. Thoughts race through your mind as you wonder about the type of Magikiras unit you'll get to operate today. Probably a standard T-01, an early model that you've seen the senior recruits use for training. A good model, easy to use. Yeah…that's probably…
Whumphf!
Your thoughts are interrupted as you collide with another person walking along the corridor on the way to the locker room, causing you to fall to the ground in an undignified heap.
"Hey! Watch it!"
