Chapter 18

"See you tomorrow," Gina waved her hand to both of her best friends as she walked to her car. It was quite a tiring day at her work, today. Luckily, she don't have anything to do tonight. So she could just go home and rest.

She took out her car key from her bag and opened the driver door. But before she could stepped into the car, someone pulled her from the back. "Cheryl?"

PAP! Cheryl slapped her.

Gina slapped Cheryl back and pushed her away. "What the hell, Cheryl?" she said with an angry voice.

"Dan told me everything and thanks to you, he left me. I asked you to help him recover but you made love with him? You must be happy now? Well, of course you do huh? Dan Rashawn, the NFL star finally wants you, the pathetic backstabber." Cheryl stated in a smug way.

Gina crossed her arms against her chest. "I got nothing to do with your sad life, Cheryl. You're the one who left him in the first place and when you came back, he chooses you over me. When he accepted you, you cheated on him. And now you put the blame on me? Listen, girl. If anything goes wrong with your relationship, don't drag me into your problem because like I said I got nothing to do with you nor Dan." she ended and went into her car.

She drove her car back to her house. Her cheeks still hurts from the slap. She stopped her car at the driveway of her parents house and walked out from the car.

"Gina," Dan stood up from the porch swing as he saw Gina walking towards her house. "I want to talk."

"What are you doing here?" Gina asked hoarsely.

"Look, I know you don't want to see me...,"

"You're right, I don't." she answered while searching for her house key in her bag.

"The same reason why I'm willing to leave Boston Rebels and move to Denver. I love you, Gina."

"I'm not buying it anymore, Dan. I had enough being your fallback player. If I'm not a priority when you're preoccupied, then no, i refuse to be an option when you're bored." she told him.

"You're not my fallback player. When you left, I thought I could be happy with Cheryl. But all i ever think is you. I know you're mad at me, and you have the right to be. You could say anything you want, but I won't leave this ground without you. I don't want to wake up another morning alone."

"Well, you can always call back your beautiful Cheryl. Goodbye, Dan." she unlocked the door and closed the door behind her.

Dan shoved his hair back in frustration. "You can stubborn all you want, Gina. But I know you." he said but there's no answer from Gina.

But like he said, he's not leaving the ground without Gina. He waited there for hours. Joe invited him in, but he refused because he knows Gina won't like that.

"I think you should go talk to him." Joe advised. "You can't let him wait like that."

"But I already gave him the answer. I don't want him."

"Are you sure that's what you want? Because from what i see, that's not the answer."

"But he hurts me, dad."

"Everybody hurts. But it will hurt you more if you didn't do what's right for you. What inside here telling you to do." he pointed his finger at Gina's heart. "So go,"

Gina nodded. She stood up from the couch and opened the door. Dan was already fall asleep on the swing. "Dan," she called, patting his arm.

"Hey," he smiled as he saw Gina standing in front of him. He moved to the side to give her space to sit.

Gina sat down and sighed. "To be honest, I get scared to let my guard down because I'm afraid that you'll hurt me again."

"I know, I'm sorry." Dan touched her hand gently. "When Cheryl came back to me, I thought she was the one. But then, everything started puzzled up when Cheryl said she wanted to continue our marriage and I refused to. Because for the first time, I was hesitate about the love I had for her. And I couldn't sleep without thinking what's the relationship between you and Tony." he explained.

"Tony and I were friends. He likes Dana."

"He does?"

"Yeah. At first I thought he likes me because he keeps asking me out. But then everytime we're going out, he always asked me to bring along my friends which is Dana and Jeff. And when we talked, all he ever said about is Dana. That's how I know, Dana is the one." Gina stated.

"That's a relief." Dan smiled. "I really miss this kind of conversation with you." he looked her in the eyes.

"Me too," Gina bumped her shoulder against his.

"Is that 'bump' means our team will get a new athletic trainer?"

"We'll see about it." she shrugged her shoulder and chuckled.
